S-shaped white figures depict pairs of white swans – an ancient symbol for a young couple. Since Paleolithic Age swans represented love and care in mythologies of all Indo-European peoples. Red lines between swans form formalized images of horned women – Mothers of the World. They bless a couple, and protect love of these two from any harm.
Young Russian women presented such plats to their husbands and boyfriends to express their love. Also, that design was a traditional wedding gift in Russian villages till the beginning of the 20th century. It was read as a wish of true and eternal love that should be based on friendship, respect, and care.
